The Christmas Shoes

Best Christmas ShoesTwo separate stories mesh - in the first, a young music teacher, Maggie Andrews, begins dying of a heart condition and her son Nathan tries to get a pair of Christmas shoes for her before she dies. In the second, lawyer Robert Layton and his wife Kate are slowly drifting apart and the matter comes to a head during Christmas when Kate takes over for Maggie for the school choir and declines a job in Robert's firm. When Robert's mother passes away, he begins to reconsider things and his and Nathan's paths cross on Christmas Eve as Nathan tries to raise the money for the shoes and Robert tries to get a present for his daughter.

Alexander McQueen Shoes

Shoes Black White for FashionYour new year shouldn’t be a twilight of grays, a melt of highlights and lowlights, a boring blend of neither success nor failure.

Your new year should be bright white striped with base black, it should be pure success played up by dark lessons.

Your new year should be an ambitious arch balanced on a pin-thin heel of risk and a fat platform of soul to save you.

But should you want to waste your new year, at least do it going into debt for Alexander McQueen f**k-you shoes, while jetting ’round the world, snorting coke off a model’s six-pack.

chocolate gift shoesThese gourmet chocolate high heeled shoes from Gayle's Chocolates are a fabulous gift for shoe lovers.Photo by Eric Smith, courtesy of GaylesChocolates.com.

Masterfully combining two of life's greatest treasures, and two of my biggest passions, Gayle Harte of Gayle's Chocolates is obviously some sort of genius for having created these stunning chocolate shoes.

Weighing 14 ounces, and measuring seven inches long and six inches tall, these gourmet treats are individually handmade, and no two are exactly alike.

These chocolate shoes would make a great gift for anyone who loves shoes, chocolate, or both.

The original chocolate pumps (shown here) are offered in pink, milk, white or dark chocolate, and each shoe costs $40 (US). But before making up your mind, you'll want to check out the rest of Gayle's chocolate shoe collection, which includes metallic gold and silver chocolate mules, violet chocolate pumps, and several other fabulous footwear delights.

Shoes for Christmas

christmas-shoesI look for “Christmas Shoes” and this is what I get. Oh well.

Well, my happy one-week break away from home and school and everything is ended, along with Christmas which I guess doesn’t affect me as much as it does some since I don’t actually celebrate it but regardless, it’s over, and I’m relieved.

As I’ve mentioned briefly in the past, I work at a small thrift store, and, as I’ve also mentioned, am often pelted with sub-par music at the hands of our variety-free local Christian radio station, but this last month has been kind of nice since the station has been playing Christmas music exclusively and I love Christmas music. Sure, the station managed to keep the long arm of variety out of its playlists as it played the same four songs over and over as reinterpreted by seven different artists, but dangit I like Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith, and I almost never get to hear them except at Christmas.

So it was good, right? And surely not even a nit-picky little Grinch like me could have the heartless nerve to break down a Christmas song, right? I liked the music, and I’m sad now that it’s gone back to regularly scheduled programing.

But one song of the holiday I definitely will not miss, ever, even if I never heard it again, is Christmas Shoes.

The premise? A man goes to the store and there’s a kid in front of him in the check-out line and he’s a totally normal boy.

Except wait! He’s poor looking.

And then he tries to buy these shoes and tells the cashier for some reason that they’re for his mom, because she’s sick, and she’s probably going to die soon, and the shoes will make her happy and also pretty for when she meets Jesus.

But oh noes! Kid has not enough money!

So the kid looks at the singer of the song and repeats the same exact story to him. And the man pays for the shoes. And the kid leaves. And the guy had some kind of Christmas epiphany or somethingchristmas-shoes

ladies_high_fashion_shoesShoe trends for fashion 2009

Spring 2009 shoe trends for women are all about excess. Shoes with embellishments from zippers to chains are all set to dash off of the runway and into high street shoe fashion stores. Ladies, if you have saved any of your platforms from the 1970’s, especially those with fringes and straps, then now is the time to dust them off and let them shine. What was fashionable yesterday about shoes is still relevant, only greatly exaggerated. Zips have been doubled, studs trebled and heels lengthened. On top of this accents are more dramatic and creative design has run riot as chains, spikes and statuesque heels, that really resemble statues, have been added. Colors for spring shoes in 2009 range from neutral beige, taupe, tan and cream to those which are more vibrant, such as hot fuchsia pink, green or orange. This allows women a great palette from which to mix and match with outfits. Colorful shoes can brighten up a bland garment, whereas those in a neutral color can help to tone a lively garment down. Shoes are bursting out all over in floral embroidery and embellishments to match the spring countryside and gardens. Flower prints adorn many shoes, giving feminine appeal. Gladiator sandals and heeled Huarache shoes are larger than life, with more straps than ever. Fringes, buckles and studs have been added for extra pizazz. If you have any left in your wardrobe from last season then you can simply add leather straps to them to bring them up to date if you don’t want to splash out on a new pair. Artistic shoes are also on the rise. These have a watercolor appearance on their material, which may resemble tie dye effects or splashes of subtle paint. This design is to be found on flat pump shoes made from cotton, right up to impressively high heeled varieties of sandals. One thing that most spring shoes for 2009 have in common is the way that they appear to be growing up the wearers ankles! Almost organic in design, shoes don’t end where they used to, but simply go on and on, draped with embellishments similar to those seen as fashion jewelery in the 1970’s. At the same time, there is a touch of a bondage theme going on, with black, shiny material creeping up from platform shoes higher up the leg in a cutaway design. To these you may find chains or spikes added, which are reminiscent of the punk era in Great Britain in the 1980’s. Perhaps the most fascinating of aspects about spring shoes trends though, is the creative heels. What may be called ‘barley twists’ if on antique furniture have been added to heels such as those designed by Alexander McQueen, while Rodarte’s heels have punk chain detail hanging from them. My personal favorite though, has to be Marc Jacobs architectural heels, which surely resemble the future of fashion for shoes.

Mai Lamore Shoes with Beautiful Design

Mai Lamore has been the ‘need to know’ name among fashionistas for months and this week she’s finally launching her new collection exclusively at Browns in London.

The shoe designer has been secretly developing her line of high luxury couture shoes after 20 years in the art world.

Mai Lamore Rose ShoesMai Lamore Rose Shoes, $27, 945.00 or £17, 197.00

The collection is not classed as ‘Haute Couture’ and the ‘most expensive shoes of 2009′ for nothing. The shoes come with a price tag that is not for the faint-hearted in the pockets (prices start from £8,500.00) because it incorporates the most precious materials on earth such as shaved mink, satin, gold, natural pearls and semi precious stones to make each shoe a beautiful work of art. As you can see on the Mai Lamore Rose Shoes above, she has incorporated 18 karat gold heels complemented with the hand dyed silk petals.

Mai Lamore black feather platform heelBut fear not! Mai has also created a limited edition, prĂȘt-a-porter collection inspired by her luxury shoes with a more affordable price tag (affordable starts at £1,400.00). For example, the gorgeous Mai Lamore Eva Platform below left, which is available in crocodile, leather and python.

Mai Lamore ShoesBrowns now stocks her collection exclusively in the UK, and because of the shoes’ exclusivity, you cannot order them online. You have to go to the store so get there quickly because I predict a riot!
