The Christmas Shoes

Two separate stories mesh - in the first, a young music teacher, Maggie Andrews, begins dying of a heart condition and her son Nathan tries to get a pair of Christmas shoes for her before she dies. In the second, lawyer Robert Layton and his wife Kate are slowly drifting apart and the matter comes to a head during Christmas when Kate takes over for Maggie for the school choir and declines a job in Robert's firm. When Robert's mother passes away, he begins to reconsider things and his and Nathan's paths cross on Christmas Eve as Nathan tries to raise the money for the shoes and Robert tries to get a present for his daughter.

Federer to take on Fish in Cincinnati Masters final

Swiss mogul Roger Federer defeated Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters on Saturday and will play American Mardy Fish in the final. Fish, 36-ranked in the world, rallied to beat ninth seed and good friend Andy Roddick 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-1.

"It was a struggle to keep the ball in play. But I played aggressive, and it paid off. I trained hard after Wimbledon and was able to work on a few things. I'm keeping the other guy from dictating, and the hard work has paid off (in Toronto and Cincinnati)," Federer said.

"I've got another chance to win a Masters title here. Things are working out for me. That's something that wasn't happening at the start of the season."

Federer, losing finalist a week ago in Toronto against Andy Murray, is seeking his first trophy since the Australian Open in January. Fish lifted back-to-back honours in July at Newport and Atlanta - where he beat Roddick to end a run of nine losses against his friend from their teenage years.

Federer leads Fish with a 6-1 mark in career, though in their last meeting the American did defeat Federer in 2008 at Indian Wells.

I am completely obsessed with shoes, so I felt I had to share with all of you some of the cutest shoes I’ve seen around. There are a lot of new fashions this season, but there are also lots of things that have come back from last season, so don’t throw anything out yet. Pretty much anything that’s cute, will look good on you. I especially like the peep-toes because they make any outfit extremely sexy as well as stilettos which are completely to die for!

These adorable peep-toe pumps are from J Lo’s shoe collection. They are absolutely amazing, especially for the summer. I especially like the ankle strap, so you can wear them either during the day or at night. The color is very interesting as well, a deep green with a black background, and a lot of intricate little details that add just the right touch to these ultra-feminine shoes.

These next shoes are probably one of my top choices (I’ve featured them on a previous blog) but I just can’t get enough of them! They are so perfect for the summer as they will go fabulously with anything from skinny jeans, to miniskirts, and all sorts of summer dresses. The wooden heel gives it a simple, natural look, while the floral pattern gives off a feminine vibe. These peep-toes will make your legs look absolutely amazing.

Now there is nothing better than a cute pair of espadrilles on a nice summer day. These sandals are very chic and modern, but simple and natural at the same time. Just the different design of the shoe is in itself an entirely new perspective. The color is an amazing red, which goes surprisingly well with the black and white rimmed straps. These are the perfect shoes for a stroll through the park and even a day at the beach.

Fashion trends in shoes and booties – Autumn Winter 2008 2009

If you loooove shoes, then this post is for you. Maybe you don’t have a closet full of Manolo’s shoes like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, but some good choices for the season could be enough. We need to know which trends in shoes and boots are in fashion this autumn-winter that is becoming very cold.

The must-have footwear for women this winter are the Eighties-style booties. They are the perfect complement for skinny pants, skirts or dresses. They can be hidden platform booties like those designed by Yves Saint Laurent, or pointed booties like those designed by Chloé or Roberto Cavalli.

The punk or rock style is complemented with elements like the studs used in Gucci boots. Boots with fringes, like those of Gucci, are perfect for the folk-hippie style, that is so in fashion this season.
