If you’re anything like me, you love the TLC fashion makeover show What Not to Wear, in which people submit their friends, mothers, wives, girlfriends, etc. (and the occasional male!) to the show for a much-needed fashion makeover. Snarky yet endearing hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly throw out everything they deem unacceptable in the woman’s wardrobe and give her $5,000 to buy a new one that adheres to the fashion rules they lay out. The experience is rounded out with an overhaul of hair and makeup. It’s basically girl porn.
This week’s fashion victim is Addie Broyles, an Austinite and employee of the Austin-American Statesman. She’s written a great story about her experience on the show (beware! she spills some shocking WNTW secrets). The article includes excerpts from the blog she wrote during the week she filmed the show and a breakdown of how she spent that $5,000.
Says Addie of the experience:
Being on What Not to Wear wasn’t the most dramatic life-changing event I’ve gone through, but no matter how superficial it seems, looking good makes a difference in how you walk out of the house and greet your day.
I look forward to getting dressed each day, no matter if I’m going to work or a playgroup. The colorful array of heels I brought back no longer intimidates me. It’s taken a little while to get used to the attention, but as a label on the inside waistline of one of my new pairs of jeans puts it, “It is better to be looked over than overlooked.”
Addie is the latest of four Austinites picked to be on this season of What Not to Wear. The other three women are 26-year-old music teacher Danielle Solan, 45-year-old contractor and mother Kathy Garth, and former exotic dancer Joy Menefee.
